May Update

“Porque la paga del pecado es muerte, mas la dádiva de Dios es vida eterna en Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro.”

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

~ Romans 6:23~

What comes to mind when you think of a gift? Sometimes we are gifted with things that we could have bought for ourselves, and perhaps were even planning to purchase. Dádiva is the Spanish word used for gift in Romans 6:23. Historically, that Spanish word is used in the context of giving alms or charity to the poor – gifts given to people who could never acquire such gifts, nor repay them. What a great reminder that, without Christ, we are poor and needy. In Christ, we have been given a gift that we could never have purchased for ourselves, and certainly one that we could never repay. We praise God for this gift. We are humbled and thankful that we have the privilege of taking the good news of this gift to the people of Ecuador!

We had one meeting this month; this was in Sylvania, OH, just outside of Toledo. We enjoyed fellowshipping with these brothers and sisters. We were very thankful for the opportunity to meet with another missionary couple who just finished their first term on the field. We were able to talk with them about deputation and glean from what they learned. We truly appreciate the time that they took to encourage us!

While we did not travel for the rest May, the Lord gave us a productive month. The Lord has provided four additional meetings for this year, as well as one for next year. Jeff had several teaching opportunities with the youth group at one of our supporting churches, as well as a preaching opportunity this past Sunday. We were also able to rest and be refreshed through focused time in God’s Word. This is always a blessing, and our spirits are encouraged as we begin a busy summer of travel.

Today we are traveling to Illinois, where we will be located for the next week. This Sunday, we anticipate fellowshipping with one of our supporting churches. We are also thankful for the opportunity to help with Vacation Bible School at Brunswick Community Church. This will take place Monday-Friday of next week. We will be helping with crafts, as well as teaching. Please pray for wisdom and clarity as we speak, as well as genuine fruit. Later in June, we will spend about a week with our sending church in Greenville, SC.

We do have a matter of praise! We received word that we are being recommended for support at a church we visited earlier this year. We are still working to fill our schedule for the remainder of the year. We are concentrating on our fall schedule, and fall is often a busy time for Missions Conferences. Please pray for wisdom as we schedule meetings around the arrival of Baby Mayfield in September. Thank you so much for your faithful prayers for us!

On a personal note: We continue to praise the Lord for a safe and healthy pregnancy. However, we will be traveling from July 2nd-August 20th. We are very thankful for the doctor's flexibility with our travels, but since these trips are so late in the pregnancy, Lisa's doctor is requiring that she fly back for an appointment during those six weeks. Many of you have asked us to let you know if we ever have any needs. If you would like to help with travel expenses, gifts can be sent to Biblical Ministries Worldwide and label it for "Jeff and Lisa Mayfield Travel Expenses." Please pray that the Lord would provide flight times that are convenient with Jeff's speaking schedule.

Praise and Prayer:

1. Praise: Encouraging meeting in Ohio

2. Praise: Additional meetings scheduled for 2018

3. Praise: Productive Month

4. Pray: Churches who are considering us for support

5. Pray: Wisdom in scheduling meetings

About Us

Our hearts are burdened for the Ecuadorian people who have never heard the Gospel, people who have been blinded by traditions and customs. We hope to reach these people with the love of Christ. Our desire is to build the church by evangelizing the lost, making disciples and training leaders.
